The Role of the Franchisee
Our owners are HANDS-ON, but they typically concentrate on the big-picture items like marketing and advertising, finance and managing the manager. It isn’t typical for an owner to work behind the counter in our business, as our investment draws a sophisticated investor. Hand & Stone Franchisees work this business full-time, so while they’re not behind the counter, they are fully immersed in the daily functions of the business. A typical day in the life of an H&S Franchisee consists of managing the manager, trouble-shooting personnel issues, grass roots marketing, making changes to the schedule, handling finances and setting up promotional events. Most owners employ a full-time manager and an assistant manager, so they are concentrating on the big picture items. The most important segment of our business is customer service, so honing the skills of the management team and making sure they are implementing those skills-sets are essential.
Our ideal candidate has worked in the corporate world and has had a successful career. They are at a stage in their life where they are “wanting more” and trying to control their own destiny. They are tired of transitioning and afraid of whom the company will sell to next. They are multi-task oriented and have good management and people skills. The owners at H&S need to have great communication skills. This is a people business, so writing, typing, navigating their way around multiple software solutions is important. Financially, they have done well and experienced a strong income level, have saved well and have no issues taking a risk when getting into a business they can own and manage. They follow a plan and a specific business model, and they are typically married, with children.
